Christmas Meditations from the Bible

Like most of you I'm looking forward to eating the chocolates in my advent
calendar. Here's an advent calendar with a difference. This year I'd like to
encourage you to read just one verse from the Bible each day as the
excitement builds up to Christmas day. They will help you to remember the
real reason for the season. The verses are printed here so you don't need to
look them up.

Tues 1 - The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found
favour with God. Luke 1:30

Weds 2 - For nothing is impossible with God. Luke 1:37

Thurs 3 - He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up
the humble. Luke 1:52

Fri 4 - An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Joseph
son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what
is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son,
and you are to give him the name Jesus. Matthew 1:20b-21a

Sat 5 - While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and
she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. Luke 2:6-7a

Sun 6 - She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there
was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:7b

Mon 7 - The angel said to the shepherds, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good
news of great joy that will be for all the people. " Luke 2:10

Tues 8 - "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his
favour rests." Luke 2:14

Weds 9 - When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had
been told them about this child. Luke 2:17

Thurs 10 - Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her
heart. Luke 2:19

Fri 11 - The Magi asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the
Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him." Matthew
2:2

Sat 12 - Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts.
Matthew 2:11b

Sun 13 - The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those
living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. Matthew 4:16

Mon 14 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God. John 1:1

Tues 15 - In him was life, and that life was the light of men. John 1:4

Wed 16 - He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the
world did not recognise him. John 1:10

Thurs 17 - Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name,
he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12

Fri 18 - The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. John 1:14a

Sat 19 - "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant
in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation." Luke 2:29-30

Sun 20 - Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is
destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign
that will be spoken against." Luke 2:34

Mon 21 - They will call him Immanuel--which means, God with us. Matthew
1:23b

Tues 22 - When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had
commanded him. Matthew 1:24

Weds 23 - "I am the Lord's servant," Mary an swered. "May it be to me as you
have said." Then the angel left her. Luke 1:38

Thurs 24 - And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom,
and the grace of God was upon him. Luke 2:40

Fri 25 - Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is
Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11
